Parker is a high growth, domestic manufacturer of quality socket drives and specialty screws. Parker recently invested $5.5M in the purchase of a 56,000 sq ft facility. The Latino Economic Development Center of Washington, DC (LEDC) will use $700,000 in CED funds to provide loans to four existing food businesses in Washington, DC. The loans will provide the necessary capital and technical assistance to expand operations, increase revenue, and stimulate job creation. The four businesses include Swizzler, a food truck that serves gourmet styled hot dogs; Republic Cantina, a Czech-Texan style restaurant; Bad Saint, a Filipino style restaurant; and DC Dosa, an authentic South Indian restaurant. In addition to the loans, each business will also be provided with small business development technical assistance and financial management support and will be connected with workforce development and food industry training partners to fill the newly created positions within each business. The Business Outreach Center Network (BOC Network) will use $800,000 in CED funds to partner with BOC Capital Corporation (a Community Development Financial Institution) to provide a loan to Wash Cycle Laundry (WCL) to expand operations through added commercial laundry facilities. WCL is a mission driven social enterprise committed to creating second-change employment for people who are returning to work after facing significant challenges such as incarceration or homelessness. It has a decentralized production network built through purchasing unused capacity at underutilized laundries throughout the area. This is paired with a bicycle trailer laundry delivery system and powered by a proprietary web application by WCL. BOC and WCL will utilize existing relationships with local community partners and workforce development partners to fill the newly created jobs with low income individuals and provide education, outreach, and training services. RCDR will partner with South Central Workforce Development Council, Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) of Washington, and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to provide career training and job placement programs to support the businesses creating new jobs. Through these partnerships, low-income individuals will have access to case management, training in job readiness skills, job placement services, job coaching, and other services. The project will create 20 new, full-time jobs, 75% of which will be filled by individuals with low income.

WWBIC will partner with Sherman Phoenix, LLC for tenant build-out, operations, and programmatic costs to develop the building. WWBIC will also provide business technical assistance to the tenant entrepreneurs and financial capability education and coaching to employees to help them gain control over their personal finances, build assets, improve their economic well-being, and move toward economic self-sufficiency.
