PMF Ambassadors
The PMF Ambassadors Program is a volunteer network of current PMFs and PMF Alumni who are available to engage academic institutions and prospective applicants about the program. The PMF Program Office works closely with PMF Ambassadors, providing them with resources to support outreach efforts and recruitment goals by sharing their first-hand experience with the fellowship. For these volunteers, it is also an excellent leadership opportunity. Ambassadors carry out a wide variety of activities, such as conducting information sessions, serving on career panels, hosting brown bags, or serving as mentors for graduate students.
The PMF Program Office recruits PMF Ambassadors in advance of each application cycle, and Ambassadors support outreach efforts through the end of that cycle (i.e. until the application for a given year has closed).
PMF Ambassadors are located across the United States. Outside the Washington, DC Metro Area, Ambassadors are assigned to a regional team based on their geographic location. Each regional team has Ambassadors who serve as “Regional Team Leads,” individuals who help coordinate outreach activities in collaboration with the PMF Program Office. The regions are organized as follows:
- Midwest: Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Kansas.
- Northeast: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
- South: Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma (excluding DC Metro).
- West: Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii.
Please note that PMF Program Office outreach efforts cover all areas, including the States listed above, Washington, DC, U.S. territories, and international locations.
PMF Ambassadors is a dynamic program that continues to grow and evolve in alignment with PMF Program recruitment goals. Achieving success requires the help of current PMFs and PMF Alumni. Please see below for further details on how to become a PMF Ambassador.
How to Become a PMF Ambassador
The PMF Program Office continually seeks PMF Ambassadors across all academic disciplines and from diverse experiences and backgrounds. An Ambassador must be a current PMF or a PMF who has successfully completed the PMF Program (i.e. an alum) and should have a clear interest in increasing awareness and advocating for the program. At this time, the PMF Ambassadors Program is open only to PMFs and PMF Alumni who are current Federal employees.
If you would like to support the program’s outreach efforts by becoming a PMF Ambassador, please send an email, with the subject line of “PMF Ambassadors”, expressing your interest to pmf@opm.gov.
Please note that current PMFs can earn up to 8 training and developmental hours toward fellowship requirements for PMF Ambassador-related activities (pending agency/supervisory approval). These activities may help develop important competencies such as Strategic Thinking, Vision, Creativity and Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Partnering, among others. Any PMF Ambassador activity during work hours must be approved by your supervisor and any PMF Ambassador work done outside of work hours must be done on a voluntary basis and on an individual’s personal time.
