ITIS Organization
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee was formed by a partnership of Federal agencies
to meet their mutual needs for scientifically credible taxonomic information
about the nation's biota.
Database Work Group
The Database Work Group (DWG) is responsible for documenting requirements
and overseeing development of the system. Members of the Work Group designed
the database model to meet the requirements of the ITIS partners.
Taxonomy Work Group
The Taxonomy Work Group (TWG) is responsible for the quality and integrity
of the taxonomic data. Primary objectives include certifying all data
prior to incorporation in the ITIS and establishing a process for periodic
peer review.
