Congressman Marchant serves as a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means and the House Committee on Ethics.
The Ways and Means Committee is the oldest committee in Congress and serves as its chief tax-writing body. In addition to matters relating to taxation, the Committee has jurisdiction over trade agreements, tariffs, the bonded debt of the United States, and revenue-related aspects of the nation’s vital health and retirement programs.
The Ethics Committee has several functions but its core responsibility is to uphold the standards of ethical conduct by which all House members and staff must abide. The Ethics Committee’s jurisdiction is derived from authority granted under the official rules of the U.S. House of Representatives and other federal statutes.
