AHRQ Quality Indicators™ (QIs)

AHRQ Quality Indicators are standardized, evidence-based measures of healthcare quality that can be used with inpatient data to measure and track clinical performance and outcomes.

The HCUP Supplemental Files are available for use with the HCUP databases to enhance a researcher's ability to conduct analyses. These files are not applicable to other administrative databases.

For Use with HCUP Nationwide Databases

NIS-Trend Weights Files**
Needed for NIS longitudinal analyses that cross from 1993-2011 to 2012 or later

NIS Hospital Ownership Files**
Facilitate longitudinal analysis by ownership categories for NIS 1998-2007

NIS 1993-2002 Discharge-Level Supplemental Files*
Facilitate longitudinal analyses that use the NIS 1993-2002

KID-Trend File**
Needed for KID longitudinal analyses that cross from 1997 to later years

For Use with Nationwide and State Databases

Cost-to-Charge Ratio (CCR) Files*
Facilitate estimating resource costs of inpatient care for NIS, KID, NRD, and SID starting in 2001 and emergency department care for SEDD starting in 2017

Hospital Market Structure (HMS) Files*
Contain various measures of hospital market competition for NIS, KID, and SID for 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006, and 2009

Supplemental Variables for Revisit Analyses***
Facilitate analyses that need to track patients within a state and across time and hospital settings in SID, SASD, and SEDD starting in 2003

American Hospital Association (AHA) Linkage Files**
Provide information to link AHA data to SID, SASD, and SEDD starting in 1990 (varies by State and year)
