USDA Foods Programs

	USDA Foods in Schools The USDA Foods in Schools program supports domestic nutrition programs and American agricultural producers through purchases of 100% American-grown and -produced foods for use by schools and institutions participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), among other programs.
	The Emergency Food Assistance Program The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is a federal program that helps supplement the diets of low-income Americans by providing them with emergency food assistance at no cost.
	Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations The Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) provides USDA Foods to income-eligible households living on Indian reservations and to Native American households residing in designated areas near reservations or in Oklahoma. USDA distributes both food and administrative funds to participating Indian Tribal Organizations and state agencies to operate FDPIR.
	Commodity Supplemental Food Program The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) works to improve the health of low-income persons at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA Foods. 	USDA Foods Disaster Assistance The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) coordinates with state, local and voluntary organizations to provide food for shelters and other mass feeding sites, distribute food packages directly to households in need in limited situations, and issue Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) benefits.
	Food Safety The mission of the Office of Food Safety (OFS) is to increase awareness, visibility, and impact of food safety on USDA nutrition assistance programs and represent FNS programs in the wider federal and state food safety community. We provide food safety technical assistance, education, and training for professionals working in child nutrition programs. OFS works closely with the Center of Excellence for Food Safety Research in Child Nutrition Programs at Kansas State University and the National
