In September 2018, USDA and HHS made a public call for nominations to the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. This step ended with the selection of 20 nationally recognized experts who served on the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.
Advisory Committee’s Scientific Review

The Advisory Committee conducted an independent, science-based review of specific topics and supporting scientific questions related to nutrition and health – from birth to older adulthood. The public was invited to submit comments to the Committee throughout its work, starting on March 12, 2019 and ending on June 10, 2020, and follow its discussions at public meetings. The Advisory Committee’s work ended with the release of the Scientific Report of the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee to the Secretaries of USDA and HHS at the end of June 2020.

The Dietary Guidelines is designed to help all Americans eat a healthier diet
USDA and HHS update the Dietary Guidelines every five years. As they develop the Guidelines, USDA and HHS will consider the Scientific Report of the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee – along with input from Federal agencies and the public. This work will end with the release of the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
