NAHMS Aquaculture Studies

The USDA-APHIS National Animal Health Monitoring System (NAHMS) will be working with the aquaculture industry and other stakeholders to develop what will be its fourth study of the U.S. aquaculture industry. Although previous NAHMS aquaculture studies have focused on catfish production and health, the tentative focus of the next study is mollusks and crustaceans. This change in focus is based on results from a previous online survey, results from the NASS 2018 Census of Aquaculture, recent disease issues, and discussions with aquaculture personnel from USDA’s Veterinary Services.
The study will be developed with input from industry representatives and other stakeholders. Discussions will include survey timing and methodology, questionnaire design, and industry involvement. The study will collect information about health management and production issues that affect the aquaculture industry. It will also examine top disease issues affecting specific sectors of the industry, as well as producer concerns related to aquaculture regulations, controls, and applications.
NAHMS is a nonregulatory program of USDA–APHIS–VS.
