The Physical and Life Sciences (PLS) Directorate delivers science that ensures the success of the LLNL's national security programs, anticipates their future needs, and provides innovative solutions to the hardest scientific problems facing the nation. In doing so, the PLS Directorate:

Attracts, trains, and retains a world-class scientific workforce for national security missions.
Maintains specialized research capabilities and facilities that provide leadership in broad research areas central to the Laboratory's missions.
Combines unique Lab research and development capabilities in measurement science, simulation, and information science to find solutions for national security problems and to advance the scientific foundations of the Laboratory.
