How Do I Apply for an AmeriCorps VISTA Project?
Public, private, or faith-based nonprofit organizations as well as local or state agencies can become an AmeriCorps VISTA sponsoring organization.
The application process is conducted at the state level to ensure local community needs are being met. The application process is a two-phase process with concept paper and full application. Download the application materials below and contact your Corporation for National and Community Service State Office to learn more about the application timeline.

Watch the short tutorial below to see whether AmeriCorps VISTA is the right fit for your organization.
Sponsor requirements:
- Project sponsors must be able to direct the project, supervise the AmeriCorps VISTA members, and provide necessary administrative support to complete the goals and objectives of the project. The goals and objectives must be clearly defined and directed towards alleviating problems of low-income communities, and meet the regulations of the AmeriCorps VISTA program.
- One consistent goal for every AmeriCorps VISTA project must be the sustainability of the project by the sponsoring agency and low-income community after AmeriCorps VISTA project sponsorship ends.
- Please note: the AmeriCorps VISTA and AmeriCorps State/National application process are two separate and different applications and processes.
Applying for an AmeriCorps VISTA Project
Contact the CNCS State Office covering the area in which the proposed project would be located to discuss application timeline, requirements and procedures. State Office contact information can be found here.
The CNCS State Office will provide technical assistance during the application process. The length of the application process varies, but the average time from the initial contact to a final decision is 3 to 5 months.
AmeriCorps VISTA uses eGrants, the CNCS online application system.
