RISS is composed of six regional centers and the RISS Technology Support Center (RTSC). RISS works regionally and on a nationwide basis to respond to the unique crime problems of each region while strengthening the country’s information sharing environment. More than 9,000 local, state, federal, and tribal law enforcement and public safety agencies are members of RISS. RISS is used and trusted by hundreds of thousands of law enforcement officers and criminal justice professionals in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, Canada, England, and New Zealand.

The mission of the RISS Program is to assist local, state, federal, and tribal criminal justice partners by providing adaptive solutions and services that facilitate information sharing, support criminal investigations, and promote officer safety.

RISSIntelThe RISSIntel user interface provides for a real-time, online federated search of more than 50 RISS and partner intelligence databases, including state intelligence systems, fusion centers, and systems connected via the National Virtual Pointer System (NVPS). RISSIntel permits federated searching across many systems without requiring the RISSNET user to have a separate user account for each partner system. Millions of intelligence records are available via RISSIntel and between connected partner systems. Records include individuals, organizations and gangs, and associates, as well as locations, vehicles, weapons, and telephone numbers. RISSafeRISSafe is an essential component in helping to ensure that our officers remain safe. Investigative efforts, such as undercover operations, often create the potential for conflict between agencies or officers who are unknowingly working in close proximity to each other. In other cases, agencies or officers may be coordinating an event focusing on the same subject at the same time. In either case, agencies or officers may interfere with each other’s cases, causing investigative efforts to be disrupted or, worse, officers to be unintentionally hurt or killed. The use of an officer safety event deconfliction system provides for controlled and secure monitoring of these operations and the immediate notification of affected parties when conflicts arise. RISS Officer Safety WebsiteThe RISS Officer Safety Website provides secure access to vetted, trusted information and materials on topics, including armed and dangerous individuals and situations, concealments, officer safety videos, and training. Other features include a training calendar, daily roll call, announcements, and the Officer Down Memorial. Registered users of the VALOR Web Portal who are sworn law enforcement officers are also able to seamlessly access the RISS Officer Safety Website. RISSLeadsThe RISSLeads Investigative Website enables authorized law enforcement officers with the ability to post information regarding cases, investigative leads, or other law enforcement issues. Authorized users are able to view and respond to posts. Connecting law enforcement officers across jurisdictional boundaries is crucial in detecting and apprehending today’s mobile and sophisticated criminals. RISSLeads is an example of how geographically disparate law enforcement professionals can convene electronically to discuss cases and share investigative techniques. |
