Last week Mobility performed for the 35th annual “Merriment on Main” in Vacaville, California. The local community got the holiday season rolling with the tradition of lighting the Christmas tree located in the center of town. The event was a huge success with over 2,500 people in attendance, and there were many distinguished visitors including the Mayor of Vacaville Len Augustine, CA state senator Bill Dodd, Travis AFB Commander Col John Klein, and Travis AFB Command Chief Steve Nichols. 🎅🏼

The Golden West Winds bundled up and hit the road to Washington state. They will be joining the Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra at Kentlake High School TOMORROW, December 9th, at 7:00 P.M. for their holiday spectacular concert. GWW will perform Jeff Scott’s woodwind quintet arrangement of “Libertango” and play alongside the orchestra during their festive tunes. Do you think these santa hats and reindeer ears will get the audience pumped for the holiday season?! 😂
Yesterday the saxophone quintet went to Stanley Middle School in Lafayette, CA. They performed, sat-in on rehearsal, and gave helpful tips on playing and being a better musician. The students were engaged and a joy to teach! Thanks for having us!

It’s the first Monday in December, and it’s also... #Musicianmonday. Fresh out of basic training, meet our new trumpet player, Airman First Class Ally Hany! A1C Hany is from St. Louis, Missouri and grew up hearing musicians from our sister band, USAF Band of Mid-America! She received her Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas, and completed her Master’s of Music in Jazz Arts from the Manhattan School of Music! A1C Hany is not only new to the Air Force, but also a newlywed! She got married two weeks before shipping to basic military training, and joked that BMT was her honeymoon! 😂 Welcome to the band, Ally! We are happy to have you.

Napa, California, the Golden West Winds Woodwind Quintet will be presenting a concert next Sunday, December 3 at 2 P.M. in the Napa Valley Opera House! They will be premiering a commissioned work, written by Theo Chandler, entitled "Lift". This piece is dedicated to Air Mobility Command's Humanitarian Relief Missions. It's #musicianmonday. Meet our newest bassoon player: A1C Jay Sutey! He grew up in Fairfax County, VA as the youngest of three in an Army family. A1C Sutey picked up the bassoon in fifth grade, inspired by the famous solo in Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf." In 2013, he graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor's in music education, and in 2016 went on to complete a graduate degree in bassoon performance from DePaul University. A1C Sutey joined us a month ago after completing 8.5 weeks of basic military training, where he graduated as the top honor graduate out of hundreds of trainees! What an accomplishment!
A1C Sutey likes to spend his free time cooking, going to the gym, and slowly enjoying a nice cup of coffee. Welcome to the band!
Here is a #sundayselfie of Senior Airman Michelle Doolittle with the University of Washington's Husky Marching Band in Seattle. Yesterday she sang the National Anthem at the beginning of the game and "God Bless the USA" for halftime! UW played well, and took home the win. Go Huskies!
Take notice of the drum major's backbend! 😮
A huge congratulations to MSgt Ryan Miles on his twenty-four years of service in two military branches! Prior to enlisting in the Air Force, he served seven years in the Marine Corps Band. MSgt Miles plans to go back to school to become a licensed commercial pilot. Best of luck to you and your family as this new chapter begins. Your BOTGW family will miss you! Cheers! ✈️
