The UNT Center for Leadership and Service, in conjunction with UNT Student Activities, has introduced a new virtual program for students during the Fall 2020 semester.

The new program called S.N.A.P. Chats stands for Shaping New Advocates in a Pandemic. Beginning in September, S.N.A.P. Chats will involve students in discussions that focus on empowering and strengthening students’ leadership skills, and overall social awareness during the pandemic. Their goal is to continue to engage with the student body even if it can’t be in person.

Each chat will have notable members of the UNT community discussing topics from allyship to mental health. Talks will be held biweekly, with dates going through November.

“Students should attend S.N.A.P. Chats because it gives them the opportunity and tools to engage meaningfully with our campus and beyond. We are beginning to have many long overdue conversations in this country and our goal was to address as many as we can in this series.” said Destinee Williams, graduate assistant for the Center for Leadership and Service.

The first conversation will take place with Damian Torres, director of the Multicultural Center, and Kathleen Hobson, director of the Pride Alliance, on September 23rd at 3 p.m. The rest of the dates and the topics are listed below

  • September 23: Allyship and Advocacy
  • October 7: Identifying your skills
  • October 28: Commitment and Accountability
  • November 11: Mental Health and Self Care
