Student Research at UNT
The mission of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (VPRI) is to expand and promote the research enterprise at UNT by helping faculty and student researchers push the boundaries of their fields. This mission is achieved by facilitating an interdisciplinary approach to research — a catalyst for discovery and innovation — that has cemented UNT's status as a Tier One research university.
Honors College Programs
McNair Scholars Program
Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. It supports juniors and seniors who are low-income, first generation, and/or underrepresented in graduate education for doctoral education and provides the opportunity to participate in research with a faculty mentor.
UNT Undergraduate Research Fellowship
Approximately 250 Undergraduate Research Fellowships, each funded at $500 provides support for students who show promise of significantly contributing to faculty-led research programs.
UNT Scholars Day
Celebrates the work of undergraduate researchers at UNT. All UNT students are encouraged to participate and do not need to be members of the Honors College to present.
Graduate Student Resources
Toulouse Graduate School
Provides resources for graduate students, including travel grants to present research, research awards, writing resources, workshops, and other support services essential for graduate student success.
Research Courses
Students involved with research should complete the Responsible Conduct of Research Training, Online CITI Training, and Safety courses. Ask your faculty mentor which course is right for you.
To search for funding to support your research, refer to resources such as the Pivot database and refer to the Pivot online tutorial to learn more.
Fellowships
Consider applying for the prestigious programs, including the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, Ford Foundation Fellowship Program, or determine if you are eligible for NIH training opportunities.
College and Departmental Research Focused Events
Many research events occur at the departmental or college level; ask your faculty mentors and advisors for updates on opportunities.

Biology Graduate Student Association
The goal of the BGSA is to advocate the interests of Biology graduate students, provide a social networking tool for biology graduate students, promote a closer relationship among new and current graduate students, and to create an environment of support.
College of Engineering
CoE holds several research-focused events and seminars.
Chemistry NSF-REU program
This program offers interdisciplinary research experiences at the forefront of the chemical sciences. A unique aspect of our REU program is that all projects will involve collaboration between research groups, both experimental and computational.
Science Undergraduate Research Presentation Awards
The College of Science is offering up to $250 per student per academic year to support presenting research at academic conferences. All requests for funding are considered and granted on a first-come, first-served basis, so requests should be submitted as far in advance as possible. It is acceptable to submit this application after travel has been completed.
