Eligibility and Membership Requirements

The Honors College is only open to undergraduate students pursuing their first Bachelors Degree.

First-semester students admitted for Fall 2021 receiving the following UNT Scholarships are offered automatic admission to the Honors College and do not need to submit an application.

  • UNT Meritorious Scholarship for National Merit Finalists
  • UNT Excellence Scholarship—President’s Scholarship and Dean’s Scholarship Award Levels
  • Terry Foundation Scholarship

Other interested students should complete the online application.

Freshman Applicants are required to submit (1) SAT or ACT scores, (2) a high school transcript that includes GPA and class rank, (3) a personal statement and (4) resume. We consider the student’s academic record in light of the types of courses taken and the nature of their high school curriculum.

Transfer Students and Currently Enrolled UNT Students submit (1) transcripts for completed college work, (2) a personal statement and (3) resume. In general, students with more than 72 hours completed and in-progress are not considered for admission to the Honors College.

Honors College members pay a $20 program fee each semester. This fee provides students with Honors benefits of priority registration, advising, access to Honors courses, and extensive co-curricular programming. If a student admitted to the Honors College does not activate their membership by enrolling in an Honors course, the fee is fully refunded and will not be charged in subsequent semesters.
