COVID-19 and Dining Services

Due to the university’s response to COVID-19 and current guidelines, the Dining Services team has taken steps to ensure the safest, most enjoyable dining experience for UNT students and our entire campus community. We will continue to remain flexible so that we can respond to these unprecedented, rapidly-evolving circumstances. Visit healthalerts.unt.edu for university-wide updates.

Modified serving styles

To reduce surface spread and expedite service while continuing to offer your favorite menu items, we’ve adjusted our serving lines and service styles.

Single-use disposables

We remain committed to environmental sustainability and keeping prices low, so this temporary solution will be phased out as safety permits.

Please minimize waste by only taking what you need and recycling because We Mean Green!

One swipe per 60 minutes

To help manage room capacities, our Unlimited Everyday & Unlimited Weekday Plan Members may use one swipe per hour. Flex can be used anytime.

Hours of operation

Be sure to bookmark dining.unt.edu/hours as our hours of operation may change.

Takeout available

Currently we’re offering takeout options in all of our Dining Halls. We remain committed to environmental sustainability and keeping prices low, so this temporary solution will be phased out as safety permits.

Dining room capacity

We’re limiting our Dining Hall capacities – including those Guests in queues – to 50% capacity to provide adequate space for social distancing

Student safety is our priority

We have changed many of the ways we do business due to COVID-19:

  • UNT Dining Services is utilizing FDA’s Employee Health and Personal Hygiene Handbook for   guidelines   pertaining to food service operations.

  • Contactless entry into our Dining Halls means Guests now swipe their own ID cards upon  entry. We are not accepting cash at this time.

  • All salad stations in Dining Halls and Retail Restaurants are full-service—a trained employee will fix your salad to reduce contact.

  • We’ve reduced the number of chairs and increased space between tables in our dining rooms to allow Guests to practice adequate social distancing.

  • We’ve added floor markers and signage to encourage a 6-foot distance between other Guests and Team Members.

  • We’ve posted signs throughout our venues to serve as friendly reminders of our Guests’ responsibility to practice social distancing.

Sanitation remains top-of-mind

We take great pride in our clean operations and have increased the frequency and stringency of our already-strict cleaning routines. We have carefully reviewed our sanitation procedures and have updated them accordingly.

We are taking extra measures to ensure the safety of our Guests and Team Members by increasing the frequency of:

  • Electrostatic sanitation in dining areas

  • Deep cleaning check points in all food preparation areas

  • Disinfecting all food contact surfaces and kitchen equipment

  • Cleaning and sanitizing for tables, chairs and dining room touchpoints frequently

Our commitment to food safety has always been a priority:

  • Every Manager, Chef and employee supervisor at UNT is ServSafe Manager Certified.

  • Managers are diligent about training and overseeing proper glove change and handwashing practices.

  • UNT Dining Services’ Food Handler Certification program is the only one of its kind to be accredited though the Texas Department of State Health Services.

  • In partnership with UNT Risk Management’s Director of Public Health, we employ a third-party food safety auditor to complete regular, in-depth inspections of kitchen check points and protocols.

We will continue to review and modify all sanitation solutions as circumstances and guidelines evolve.

Our Team Members’ wellbeing is key

Our employees are the heartbeat of our organization, and their health and safety are an important priority.

We are taking these steps to ensure a safe workplace experience for our Team Members:

  • Continually checking in and communicating with our team members

  • Team members who show signs of illness are required to stay home

  • Reinforcing proper sanitation practices to keep our team members and our guests healthy

  • Working to accommodate scheduling needs

  • Requiring all employees wear masks and gloves

  • Requiring employees to review a COVID-19 symptoms poster when clocking in and out

  • Educating on social distancing in the workplace through required trainings

We are currently conducting virtual interviews for  a variety of  part-time student positions. To see available  opportunities  and apply online, visit  unt.joinhandshake.com  and search for “UNT Dining”.

It is a joy for us to serve UNT students, faculty and staff. By keeping our Team Members’ health and safety at the forefront, we have the pleasure of providing a nourishing dining experience for the entire campus community.
