Another Big Showdown For Mean Green Tennis

Norman, Oklahoma —The North Texas tennis team began the 2020 fall season last weekend with a pleasing performance against some of the best competition in the southwest at the TCU Invite. On Saturday, they head to Oklahoma and once again face some of the region's best oppositions.

The Mean Green will face the Sooners, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, TCU and Arkansas in a round robin tournament held at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center.

"After a good first tournament, the team is ready and excited," said North Texas junior Lucie Devier. "We are looking for fight and motivation from the Mean Green family. With passion, with pride we are the Mean Green."

In last week's TCU Invite, the Mean Green faced off against this same Arkansas squad they'll face this coming weekend. UNT picked up a couple double victories and senior Nidhi Surapaneni beat a Razorback opponent in singles on the last day in straight sets.

Devier, a junior college transfer who was the No. 2 nationally ranked NJCAA player last season, played well for North Texas at the TCU Invite and contributed to a pair of victories. Fellow newcomer Saki Oyama really broke out last week for UNT and was part of four of the Mean Green's 10 victories in Fort Worth. Oyama won two singles matches over Texas Longhorn opponents and she and her doubles partner sophomore Sophia Hummel beat an Arkansas and Baylor opponents in doubles.

This weekend's competition at OU will not be live streamed but stay tuned to MeanGreenSports.com and follow Mean Green tennis on Twitter @MeanGreenTennis for updates.
