Grades and Honors

When are final grades posted?

Final grades are posted at the end of each long semester (16 weeks) on the Friday following the end of the term. Processing times for posting grades varies, and students should typically allow 5-7 business days after the last day of the semester for grades to be turned in by faculty and posted by the Registrar’s Office.

How do I know if I have HONORS?

Honors is calculated using courses you took at UNT and any courses you transferred in from other institutions.  This is called your "overall" grade point average (G.P.A.).  Your overall GPA can be found on your degree audit. Instructions on how to run your degree audit can be found here: /degree-audit-information.

How do I know if I qualify for honors?

An email will be sent out to all students who qualify for honors. This email will include information on how to order and wear honors regalia for commencement. The commencement program will include a notation on applicable honors based on the student’s current overall GPA prior to fall semester final grades. UNT Dallas recognizes the following Latin honors:

Cum Laude – 3.5-3.69 Overall GPA

Magna Cum Laude – 3.7-3.89 Overall GPA

Summa Cum Laude – 3.9-4.0 Overall GPA

Honors will be printed on your official transcript as well as your diploma. Graduate students are not eligible for university honors at this time.

My cumulative GPA is a 3.5, will I still receive HONORS?

Not necessarily.  HONORS is calculated using your overall GPA, which includes coursework transferred in from other institutions.  Even if your cumulative GPA is a 3.5 or higher, your overall GPA must also be a 3.5 or higher, to qualify for HONORS.

I have a 3.449 GPA. Will it be rounded up to a 3.5?

No.  UNT Dallas grade point averages are calculated to the thousandths.

Will my HONORS be shown in the graduation (commencement) program?

If you have at least a 3.5 GPA at the beginning of your graduating semester, your HONORS will be shown in the Commencement Program.  If you have a 3.5 after you have completed courses in your graduating semester, your HONORS will not be shown in the Commencement Program.  However, HONORS will be reflected on your final transcript and on your diploma.
