Spring 2021 Move-In

Spring 2021 Move-In

Move-In for the Spring 2021 semester is Wednesday, January 6th through Sunday, January 10th

Students with a Spring 2021 room assignment are able to access the “Sign up to Move In” link in eHousing.  Options to best meet individual student’s move in needs include:

  • select an arrival date and time for one of the five Move-In days before the first day of classes
  • identify an arrival date of January 11th (1st day of classes) or later

For the five days of Move-In, 30 minute arrival window options are available for selection from 8 AM to 8 PM).  Each arrival window is capped to promote social distancing upon arrival and check-in at each building.  Please make plans to arrive on your confirmed arrival date and time window to help us facilitate the staggered arrival plan.

Students will receive a confirmation email following completion of the Spring 2021 Move-In sign up process.

Fall 2020 end of semester planning and move-out process

Fall 2020 end of semester planning and move-out process

As the Fall 2020 semester’s classes and final exams transition to remote delivery following the Thanksgiving holiday break, Housing and Dining will continue to remain open and available for residents to stay on campus through the end of the semester on December 11, 2020.  We realize that students will make decisions that best meet their individual needs related to their travel and move-out plans and encourage everyone to begin that planning process soon.

Beginning at 9 AM on Monday, November 9th, students will have access to the End of Semester Move-out Sign Up form through the Break Stay/Move-out option in the eHousing left menu.

Through the Fall 2020 Move-out Sign Up form, students will indicate their end of semester intent to:

  • move-out before Thanksgiving Break (dates leading up to November 25th)
  • move-out during pre-finals or Finals week (from November 30th to December 11th)
  • request an extension for a late move-out on Saturday, December 12

Additionally, students will provide their specific anticipated move-out date through this process.  Engagement with the process will assist with providing students necessary instructions to prepare for and complete their fall semester move-out.

As students leave campus for Fall 2020, they will need to make sure to take all belongings from their room that will be needed through the entire winter break from their room.  Access to the residence hall and their individual room will not be available following move-out for the term.

Students do not need to remove all belongings from their room for the end of the Fall semester.  Any belongings that are not needed during Winter Break can remain in the room for the return to campus for the Spring semester.

Through eHousing’s Break Stay/Move-out, residents will also find links for:

  • Thanksgiving Break Stay - submit info for anticipated dates staying on campus during the holiday break
  • Winter Break housing info - instructions for students that need to stay on campus for all or a portion of the period between Fall and Spring terms

COLLEGE INN TO CLOSE for Spring '21 Semester

After much deliberation, the University has made the decision to close the College Inn residence hall for the Spring 2021 semester.

Current Fall 2020 residents of College Inn can:

    1. Relocate to another available space within on-campus housing, or
    2. Cancel their Spring 2021 housing agreement to move off-campus

College Inn residents will be required to vacate their room at College Inn no later than:

    • 5 PM on December 12, 2020 - the last day of fall semester housing

    or

    • 5 PM on January 4, 2021 - for students that sign up for Winter Break housing

Residents that choose to relocate for Spring '21 to another on-campus housing option should…

    1. Find information for other Housing Room Types that offer availability for Spring 2021
    2. Visit the College Inn front desk staff to submit a building and room type preference
    3. Expect a confirmation from the Assignments Office of the changed room assignment for the Spring 2021

Residents relocated to other on-campus assignments will maintain their Fall 2020 College Inn billing rate for their Spring 2021 room assignment, unless the room rate is lower than the College Inn rate.

College Inn relocations will have priority for assignment in available rooms up to the start of the Spring '21 Housing application period on November 4, 2020.

Students that opt to move off-campus should...

    1. Visit the College Inn front desk staff to relay their decision

    2. Expect confirmation from the Assignments Office of the cancelled Spring 2021 housing assignment

    eHousing shutdown for app management

Each week on Monday morning, UNT Housing deletes expired Fall 2020/Spring 2021 applications from our system. To facilitate this operation, the payment portal within eHousing will be unavailable Monday mornings beginning at 8:30 AM and until the process is able to complete. We aim to restore payment functionality no later than 12 PM each Monday.

Students hoping to avoid deletion may complete their application by making the application payment within ten days of beginning that application.

We appreciate your patience with this process.

    eHousing Waiting Room

    eHousing Waiting Room

So the Housing Application process runs smoothly, we have measures in place to manage the number of simultaneous users in eHousing.  As peak usage occurs for eHousing, you may find yourself in the eHousing Waiting Room.  Think of it like getting ready to purchase concert tickets or taking a number at a classy deli.

Here is what you can expect:

    1. You will be assigned a place in the line when you initally arrive at eHousing.
    2. The number will decrease as you wait.
      • The page will auto-refresh on a regular interval to update your place in line.
    3. Once you reach the front of the line, you will be able to log in to eHousing.

It is important to keep the browser window open to maintain your Waiting Room session.  You do not need to refresh the browser to progress toward getting to the front of the line.

We understand that everyone wants to make their housing arrangements as soon as possible and appreciate the patience that is necessary to ensure that eHousing can deliver that service as intended.

    Thanks,

    UNT HOUSING

    Suite Bathroom Lock Information

In January 2015, UNT received a directive from the State Fire Marshal's Office (SFMO) to examine the bathroom locks in all residential bathrooms to determine if the locks met National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) Life Safety Code requirements for Hotels and Dormitories and if locks existed that did not meet those requirements a solution to eliminate the possibility of a person becoming trapped in the bathroom was required.  UNT conducted an evaluation of its residence hall bathroom facilities and found that our suite bathroom locks did not meet the NFPA code and we began the process to address the SFMO directive.

UNT explored many alternatives to the bathroom door hardware and was unable to find any that met the NFPA code requirements and provided feasible individual room security.  Additionally, UNT was told that the State Fire Marshall's office was not aware of a locking alternative that would meet fire code directive and be approved.  Ultimately, UNT decided that removal of the bathroom locks on all suited bathroom doors was the only solution to comply with the State Fire Marshall’s directive.  UNT as well as every major university housing operation we have contacted have implemented similar steps to remove non-compliant locks.

The process to remove all suite bathroom locking hardware began in the late summer of 2015 and was completed in all residence halls during the fall 2015 semester.

UNT and UNT Housing remain committed to resident safety, security, wellbeing and success through numerous layers and measures of support.  Students should use this as an opportunity to engage their suite-mates in a dialog about how to develop boundaries, shared respect and measures to secure the privacy, safety, and security of all students and their friends who are sharing a suite.  College should teach our students the skills they need to meet new and different people, engage in meaningful communication, resolve differences, and negotiate shared solutions.  UNT Housing staff is encouraging these discussions through RA wing and Hall meetings and are trained and prepared to facilitate these discussions as well as mediate and resolve suite-mate issues.

UNT and UNT Housing do not condone individual measures for residents to circumvent the State Fire Marshall's directive. Any such actions, if known to UNT Housing will result in judicial action from UNT Housing and if actions persist, University judicial sanctions.  Measures for residents to circumvent the State Fire Marshall's directive could potentially subject residents to further legal liability if their action were to cause harm to one of their suite-mates.

UNT can allow students to utilize safety alarms on bathroom doors that do not impede the ability to exit the bathroom space but provide an audible alert upon entry of the bedroom space from the bathroom.  Students can find acceptable options at many retail locations and through online consumer sites – a generic search result for "door alarm" will produce several reasonably priced options for consideration.

Students or parents with concerns may contact Housing Administration at housinginfo@unt.edu

    Housing payments through myUNT account

All balances for UNT Housing room and board charges are posted to each student’s myUNT account with their tuition and fee charges for the semester.

    How does it work?

Following being assigned to a room, UNT Housing will transfer all charges to a student’s myUNT account for payment.  The total charge amount for the semester will be listed in the term summary as “Room and Board Charges”.  Students are able to review details of their account through their eHousing account.

Accepted Financial Aid is directly applied to the semester UNT Housing balance by Student Accounting, following full payment of tuition and fees.  As a result, depending on the total amount of accepted aid for the semester, a student may have a remaining balance for UNT Housing room and board.  Remaining semester charges are able to paid in full or split in to three installment payment over the course of the long semester.  The installment plan for UNT Housing is applied automatically to any student with an unpaid room and board balance and there is no additional cost for the installment plan.

How do I make a payment?

Payments for any remaining UNT Housing balance, following the application of accepted aid, must be made through a student’s myUNT account or through the Student Financial Services staff in the Eagle Student Services Center.  Housing does not accept payment for semester charges.

    What else should I know?

Students should be prepared to have out of pocket funds to make textbook and class supply purchases because tuition, fee and housing charges are all paid prior to a financial aid refund disbursement to the student.  If the student’s accepted aid for the semester is exhausted by the UNT term charges, there will not be remaining funds to be dispersed to the student.

Students with questions about their financial aid award for the year should consult with Student Financial Aid and Scholarships

For assistance with budget planning or to inquire about loan programs options that are available to assist with textbook purchases, students should consult with the Student Money Management Center.
