Shaun Martin (’01) squeezed classes into a busy schedule of playing keyboard for gospel artist Kirk Franklin and R&B singer Erykah Badu.
This year, he won two Grammys – one for producing Franklin’s latest CD and another for playing as a member of Snarky Puppy. In all, Martin has a total of seven Grammys.
“I never really set out to make music to win Grammys,” says Martin. “I set out to make music to have fun. I enjoy playing music and seeing that somebody’s face is smiling.”
Martin credits UNT professors for being supportive and figuring out a way to work classes around his busy schedule.
“I didn’t graduate summa cum laude or magna cum laude. I graduated thank you Lord,” explains Martin. “That was a weird, fun, stressful time of my life.”
