Established in 1890 as Texas Normal College and Teacher Training Institute, we always have taken the road less traveled. From admitting women on that first day to pioneering water quality research for the region and from establishing the nation's first jazz studies program to becoming one of the first universities in Texas to desegregate, we have an independent spirit of excellence.

UNT named Texas' top higher ed employer

Forbes magazine recently released its list of America’s Best Employers, and UNT was near the top of the list at No. 40 nationwide. UNT employs 4,500 faculty and staff members and was named Texas’ No. 4 top employer, trailing industry leaders USAA, Southwest Airlines and MD Anderson Cancer Center.
