SMMC Services Updates due to COVID-19

Changes to UNT Student Money Management Center Services During the COVID-19 Situation

In the words of our UNT President Neal Smatresk, “Now more than ever, it's important that we live our mission and our values: to be a caring community.” Based on the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Denton County Public Health for preventing COVID-19, the Student Money Management Center is temporarily offering access to our services virtually – online and by phone – until further notice. Please note that Denton County has issued an executive order requiring all individuals in our county to stay at home. During this time, our campus is NOT open to the public.

Hours of Operation

Coaching Appointments

Our Financial Wellness Program provides one-on-one coaching sessions to students and can be scheduled via phone or Zoom video conferencing. We help students understand their financial situations and explore options and resources. Our goal is to ensure students have the tools they need to succeed in their personal financial lives today and in the future. All coaching sessions are confidential. Emergency Assistance Program

The Spring 2020 Emergency Assistance Program – loan-based program – will be offered through MAY 8, which is also the new repayment date. Applicants will need to secure a guaranteed repayment source to ensure the MAY 8 repayment date is met. The application process can be completed entirely online at this time. For more information.

SPECIAL NOTICE: REPAYMENT DATE EXTENSION!

For students who received Spring 2020 emergency assistance loans from the center with an original repayment date of April 3 and need some extra time to repay their loans, these accounts have been granted an automatic repayment extension to FRIDAY, MAY 8, 2020. With many students sharing concerns about financial uncertainty as employers modify their operations and reduce hours, the center is also waiving the $25.00 late fee set for the original repayment deadline of April 3 for these accounts.

Scheduling Class Talks & Presentations

Requests for class talks and presentations can be made online. Our Financial Readiness Program provides outreach and educational services. We have transitioned to a completely online presence during this time to support our educational events such as workshops, class presentations, activities, and other special events. We also offer fun and informative podcasts that are available on multiple platforms such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Buzzsprout, and more. To stay updated on all events and announcements visit our website at moneymanagement.unt.edu.

Please do not hesitate to contact our office if we can be of any further assistance. We can be reached at 940-369-7761 or by email, moneymanagement@unt.edu.

Stay safe. Sometimes the best way to stay safe in an emergency is to get inside and stay put inside. Respect and follow social distancing recommendations and stay at home orders. Our entire team looks forward to resuming our normal operations and in-person services.
