Plans for UNT Frisco campus take next step

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board voted Jan. 23 to approve the University of North Texas creating a Frisco-based branch campus that would provide upper-level and graduate courses on 100 acres donated by the city of Frisco. The new location will allow UNT to continue to support innovative programs and partnerships in a location that is becoming synonymous with innovative growth.

    A new collaboration between LaCore Labs and the University of North Texas will include a $1 million gift eligible for matching funds from the Texas Research Incentive Program, a new laboratory, sponsored research, a license to UNT technology and real-world opportunities for students.

    Assistant professor Tran Nguyen Templeton is working to help children express themselves and tell their own stories even though they are not yet old enough to write. Templeton, who teaches in the University of North Texas’ College of Education, researches how 2- to 5-year-olds express their understanding of the world and how they fit into it through photography.

    UNT developing first cyber knowledge bank for open access books with $1.2M grant

    The University of North Texas is leading a team with members from around the world to create an international data trust improving the measurement and analysis of open access book usage. The new data trust, funded through a $1.2 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, will be the first of its kind for scholarly publishing, enabling universities and publishers to share and analyze data on open access works.

    UNT professor’s virtual lab may hold key to preventing undersea oil pipeline leaks

    Complex organic chemistry experiments often take days or weeks to conduct in a laboratory, but not anymore. Oliviero Andreussi has created a virtual organic chemistry laboratory inside a supercomputer to conduct these same experiments in a matter of minutes. By using computational chemistry, the University of North Texas assistant professor will begin cycling through scientific databases listing thousands of organic molecules to determine the various effects of different compounds on the production or suppression of natural gas hydrates.

    The University of North Texas College of Education online master’s programs ranked among the nation’s top 20 in multiple categories in U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 Best Online Programs rankings. This year, U.S. News & World Report included 18 new specialty rankings. UNT online master’s programs in education ranked among the top 20 nationally on two of the new lists, coming in at No. 15 in curriculum and instruction and No. 17 in educational administration. UNT also ranked No. 20 on this year’s list of Best Online Master's in Education Programs.
