Christopher Walker is a composer, performer, sound engineer and music organizer active in spaces for non-for-profit performing arts organizations, education, festivals, clubs, and other venues. In his capacity as the Administrative Coordinator for the UNT Division of Jazz Studies, Christopher enjoys facilitating academic functions, supporting ensembles, production roles for the North Texas Jazz label, and progressing the conversation and production of contemporary music of the 21st century in all of its forms. Prior to his current position, Christopher held the same title for the two Divisions of Composition Studies and Music Education at UNT.

From 2007 to the present Christopher has been active in volunteer and leadership roles across a variety of nonprofit and for-profit organizations related to the arts, advocacy, and civics. He has held board or staff positions with the Texarkana Regional Chorale, 35 Denton Music Festival, The Dentoneer, BikeDenton, Denton Bach Society, and the Denton Music and Arts Collaborative (DMAC), and Andy’s Bar. He has been recognized by the Denton Arts & Music Awards as the best local live sound engineer in 2018 and 2019.

Christopher holds a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of North Texas, and participated in its Student Government Association, Composers Forum, and the President's Sustainability Council. During his time as a music composition student at UNT, he studied with Joseph Klein, Andrew May, Joelle Wallach, and Christopher Trebue Moore, with additional lessons in orchestration from Julia Wolfe and Cindy McTee. He was distinguished and recognized as the Best Undergraduate Composition Student in his final year of study. Christopher is currently pursuing a Master’s of Public Administration at UNT.

Other musical pursuits include performing, writing, or producing for Pansy Moon, Pilotdrift, An Absence of Color, and most recently the Other People’s Energy duo with composer/improviser Skyler Hill.

Since July of 2017, Christopher has run a weekly two-hour radio program called Tonotopicalia on KUZU LP-FM (kuzu.fm) with co-host and fellow composer Louise Fristensky. The show highlights contemporary composition along with new releases of genre-blurring popular music.

Christopher happily calls Denton, TX home along with his wife, Kimberly. He is a proud member of the American Composers Forum, the Society of Composers, Inc., the American Society for Public Administration, as well as a co-founding member of the Errant New Music Collective.”
