Steven Heffner

Steven Heffner is pursuing a MA in Theory at the University of North Texas. As an educator, Steven has served as a Teaching Fellow at UNT as well as an adjunct instructor at Marshall University and West Virginia Wesleyan College. His theory interests center on the pedagogy of theory and aural skills. Steven is currently ABD from UNT with a DMA in Performance with a local concentration in Jazz Studies and his dissertation research orbits the free improvisations of Dave Holland on the album Dave Holland/Sam Rivers Vol. 1. As a jazz bassist, Steven has performed with artists including Christian McBride, Chris Potter, Rashawn Ross, Audry Ochoa, Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., Bill Watrous, Jeff Clayton, Hal Galper, and others. He also continues to actively perform throughout the DFW area.
