Swimsuit Rules Interpretation
Thursday, 02 December 2010 11:41
The following is a message from Bob Groseth,  Executive Director - CSCAA:

I have received many inquires about what suits will be legal for NCAA competition. The NCAA Rules committee recently had a Conference call to discuss this subject.

Below is the email I received from NCAA Rules Committee Chairman Brian Gordon.

Bob:

The NCAA position on swimsuits remains unchanged from the information that was conveyed to the membership for the 2009-2010 school year.
As has been communicated to the membership:

•         The NCAA does not conduct testing of swimsuits nor does it approve suits.

•         The NCAA does not compile a list of approved swimsuits – a list was provided a year ago, prior to the FINA list as a resource to the membership of suits that manufacturers submitting indicating that they met the NCAA rule requirements.  Again, this did not mean these suits were approved by the NCAA.

•         At the time of the establishment of the current swimsuit rules, the committee indicated that they would not be unilaterally making changes or changing the rule in mid-year repeating what happened in 2008-2009.

•         If a coach of a member institution feels a suit is in violation of the swimsuit rule, he/she should notify the NCAA and the manufacturer will be asked to present evidence that said suit does in fact meet the swimsuit rule.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Brian Gordon
