Blending Texas wines with Italian tradition, UNT alumnus John Matthews and his wife Jill founded Cassaro Winery to bring a Tuscan wine-tasting experience home to DFW. The Cassaro family’s wine-making history dates back to John’s grandfather Giuseppe Cassaro who emigrated to the United States from Italy. Today, John uses 100% Texas grapes to make Texas wines in true Italian fashion.
Family and friends are the heart and soul of Cassaro, so the Matthews’ winery is designed to relax, sip and share special moments loved ones. Located on nearly three acres of countryside in historic downtown Ovilla, the grounds feature native pecan and fruit trees, pergolas, a patio fountain, picnic tables and a 1910 Texas farmhouse remodeled into a Tuscan-style tasting room and winery.
