Students who elected to leave university housing and completed the check-out process through their residence hall will receive a prorated credit for Spring 2020 housing charges.
What does this mean?
Students who have not yet paid their final installment, must still do so in order for tuition and fees to be paid. Afterward, for those student residents who have left their residence halls and completed the check-out process, a housing credit will adjust the amount assessed to the student’s account in myUNT.
Additional details about the prorated credit will be available in the student’s eHousing account.
Student Financial Services will not assess any late fee for the upcoming payment plan deadline on April 3rd for tuition, fees or housing charges currently owed.
When will I see these credits?
UNT Housing and Student Financial Services will begin processing the prorated credits after April 1st. Students will be sent confirmation to their University assigned email address once their account has been adjusted.
The prorated credit will be applied to any Spring 2020 charges owed for housing, dining, tuition or fees once it is posted to the student’s account in myUNT.
If the prorated housing credit results in an excess credit balance – for example, if the student account balance was already paid in full – the student will be issued a refund.
Students should confirm they have selected a refund preference through myUNT.
Due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) precautions, most University employees are working remotely, so refunds may take up to 30 days to process.
Am I going to get money back?
The prorated credit will reduce the amount due on your student account in myUNT. The prorated credit will be applied to any charges owed for housing, dining, tuition or fees once it is applied to your student account in myUNT.
If the adjustment results in an excess credit balance you will be issued a refund through myUNT. Please note that refunds generated from excess credits of certain types of financial aid or scholarship awards may take additional time to review and process.
Students should confirm they have selected a refund preference through myUNT.
What if my housing charges were paid on my behalf?
If your housing charges for Spring 2020 were paid by a department or external agency, the credit will be reviewed before any refund is processed. Student Financial Services will coordinate on your behalf with the awarding department or agency as required. If you have questions about your ability to receive a refund, please reach out to your awarding department or external agency.
If the prorated credit for the Spring 2020 housing charges results in a refund after any outstanding housing, dining, tuition or fees are paid, the refund will be processed according to your refund preference. Your refund preference can be reviewed and updated at myUNT.
Will I receive a credit for my meal plan?
The details regarding the process for providing a future credit for unused meal plan and flex dollars is being finalized. Students will receive a communication regarding their credit that can be used in the future. Please be sure to continue checking your student email so as not to miss a communication from us.
