The Data Innovation Lab is interested in applying/developing novel interdisciplinary research methods to tackle data-driven problems and exploring data-driven methodology in evidence-based information science research and practice.

The Visual Thinking Laboratory is a collection of scholars exploring the ways humans interact with the territory at the juncture of image and meaning. Laboratory members include teachers, researchers, students, information scientists, artists, philosophers, filmmakers, computer scientists, behavior analysts, photographers, and others.

Members of the Visual Thinking Laboratory construct and examine images, push the limits of existing technologies, contemplate how images function in our daily lives and academic pursuits. We examine uses of images and uses of photographic technology at all levels. Our theory base privileges both the snapshot and very large view camera image. We link problems of seeing, production processes, contexts and conditions, technical construction, social construction, history, and authoring and authority of images.

The Intelligent Information Access (IIA) Lab is dedicated to exploring effective and efficient methods for access, interaction and analysis of large, distributed, heterogeneous, multimedia and sometimes multilingual information.

The IIA Lab conducts cutting-edge research and development in cross-language information access, multimedia retrieval, information filtering, social network analysis, as well as user interaction issues. IIA also investigates the application of IIA technologies to solve problems related to digital libraries, knowledge management, biomedical informatics, education, and information seeking behavior.

The Center for Knowledge Solutions empowers scholars and scholar-practitioners to make evidence-based decisions that optimize learning and performance systems to improve organizational knowledge. The uniqueness of the center is learning and performance across disciplines and professions. 

Our mission is to generate, integrate, and disseminate knowledge solutions through learning and performance innovation for business and education. The center enables constituents and funding agencies to implement knowledge solutions for improving their organizational systems. Affiliate members include: Texas State Technical College, Purdue University, Texas A&M, Penn State University, Auburn University, Denton ISD Advanced Technology Center, University of California at Long Beach, Raytheon, Brinker International, 7-Eleven, Children’s Hospital, and Lockhead Martin.
