Located behind Maple Hall, Mean Greens Café offers a cornucopia of flavorful plant-based options—everything from house-made seitan and pizza to made-to-order paninis and fresh desserts.

Mean Greens Gets "A+" Rating from peta2

For the fifth consecutive year, the University of North Texas has earned an “A+” rating as well as Dean’s List status from peta2. Thanks in large part to the success of Mean Greens Café, UNT continues to be recognized as one of the nation’s leaders in plant-based dining and stands out even more in a state where the average rating is “B”. Growing Our Own Leafy Greens and Fresh Herbs

Mean Greens is home to a hydroponic garden built inside a specially-designed, upcycled freight trailer behind the dining hall. Five to eleven different varieties of lettuce and herbs grow at any given time in the container, allowing UNT Dining to produce up to 800 heads a week for Mean Greens and other dining halls on campus. All on about one gallon of water per day. The Mean Greens Farm drastically reduces food shipments and produces organic, non-GMO greens with superior flavor.
