COVID-19 and Dining Services

Due to the university’s response to COVID-19 and current guidelines, the Dining Services team has taken steps to ensure the safest, most enjoyable dining experience for UNT students and our entire campus community. We will continue to remain flexible so that we can respond to these unprecedented, rapidly-evolving circumstances. Visit healthalerts.unt.edu for university-wide updates.

Student safety is our priority

We have changed many of the ways we do business due to COVID-19:

  • UNT Dining Services is utilizing FDA’s Employee Health and Personal Hygiene Handbook for  guidelines  pertaining to food service operations.

  • Contactless entry into our Dining Halls means Guests now swipe their own ID cards upon entry. We are not accepting cash at this time.

  • All salad stations in Dining Halls and Retail Restaurants are full-service—a trained employee will fix your salad to order to reduce contact.

  • Reduced the number of chairs and increased space between tables in our dining room to allow Guests to practice adequate social distancing.

  • Added floor markers and signage to encourage a 6-foot distance between other Guests and Team Members.

  • Signs posted  throughout our venues serve as friendly reminders of our Guests’ responsibility to practice social distancing.

  • Frequently evaluating closed venues  to reopen as many as possible.

Sanitation remains top-of-mind

We take great pride in our clean operations and have increased the frequency and stringency of our already-strict cleaning routines. We have carefully reviewed our sanitation procedures and have updated them accordingly.

We are taking extra measures to ensure the safety of our Guests and Team Members by increasing the frequency of:

  • Electrostatic sanitation in dining areas

  • Deep cleaning check points in all food preparation areas

  • Disinfecting all food contact surfaces and kitchen equipment

  • Cleaning and sanitizing for tables, chairs and dining room touchpoints frequently

Our commitment to food safety has always been a priority:

  • Every Manager, Chef and employee supervisor at UNT is ServSafe Manager Certified

  • Managers are diligent about training and overseeing proper glove change and handwashing practices

  • UNT Dining Services’ Food Handler Certification program is the only one of its kind to be accredited though the Texas Department of State Health Services

  • In partnership with UNT Risk Management’s Director of Public Health, we employ a third-party food safety auditor to complete regular, in-depth inspections of kitchen check points and protocols

We will continue to review and modify all sanitation solutions as circumstances evolve.

Where can I eat?

As we are continually assessing the situation on and off campus, and adjusting our operations accordingly, we recommend bookmarking www.dining.unt.edu/hours for the most up-to-date hours of operation.

Currently some Retail venues and Kerr Dining Hall are open to anyone who remains on campus. If you don’t have a Meal Plan, simply pay our standard door rate at Kerr -- just $7.95 for an all-you-care-to-eat hot meal.

Our Team Members’ wellbeing is key

Our employees are the heartbeat of our organization, and their health and safety are an important priority.

We are taking these steps to ensure a safe workplace experience for our Team Members:

  • Continually checking in and communicating with our team members

  • Team members who show signs of illness are required to stay home

  • Reinforcing proper sanitation practices to keep our team members and our guests healthy

  • Working to accommodate scheduling needs

  • Requiring all employees wear masks and gloves

  • Requiring employees to review a COVID-19 symptoms poster when clocking in and out

  • Educating on social distancing in the workplace

We are currently conducting virtual interviews for a variety of part-time student positions. To see available opportunities and apply online, visit unt.joinhandshake.com and search for “UNT Dining”.

It is a joy for us to serve UNT students, faculty and staff. By keeping our Team Members’ health and safety at the forefront, we have the pleasure of providing a nourishing dining experience for the entire campus community.
