Getting Paid and Getting Housing/Dining/Fees Credit

  • I lost my on-campus job because the department is closed. What do I do?

UNT has been working with student employees to offer telecommuting options for those who can perform their job role from home, as well as helping displaced students find new positions. If you're a student employee who has been displaced, please call the Career Center at 940-565-2105 or email career.center@unt.edu.

  • I’m a UNT work-study student who cannot work because my department closed. Will I still be paid?

Students who are enrolled and currently employed in a federal or state work-study program will continue to be paid based on the hours they were scheduled to work through the end of the spring semester even if they are unable to work on campus or remotely. Work-study students should contact their supervisor for specific instructions on entering their time.

  • I moved out of the residence hall. How do I get a housing credit?

Students who elected to leave university housing and completed the check-out process through their residence hall will receive a prorated credit for Spring 2020 housing charges. For questions about your Housing and Dining credit, please visit Housing Credit FAQ.

  • I moved away from campus. How do I get a dining credit?

The details regarding the process for providing a future credit for unused meal plan and flex dollars are being finalized. Students will receive a communication regarding their credit that can be used in the future. Continue checking your student email. For questions about your Housing and Dining credit, please visit Housing Credit FAQ.

For specific questions regarding your dining account, call 940-565-2610 or email housinginfo@unt.edu.

  • Will I receive a refund on my parking pass?

Given that the vast majority of our on campus parking permits are sold on an annual basis (valid August until the next August), we have no plans at this time to issue refunds for what is expected to be a temporary issue. Please call Transportation Services at 940-565-3020 or email transporation.services@unt.edu for additional details.

  • Will I receive a refund on Spring fees?

Student fees are not calculated on an hourly or daily use structure. They are used to cover the long-term cost of offering students various necessary services, including resources such as equipment, maintenance and staffing. Learn more about fees and how they function. The library fee, for example, covers the development and maintenance of library materials students use to complete coursework, whether that is online or in-person. This includes materials students have checked out to use at home, such as laptops, for the remainder of the semester. While an actual prorated refund of fees would likely add up to a minimal amount for each individual, the collective detrimental impact of not funding these services for our community would be vast.

It’s a challenging time for all of us in the Mean Green family - students, faculty and staff. We continue to find new and innovative ways to support our students and keep our community positive and engaged through this crisis. Please contact Student Financial Services by emailing sfs@unt.edu, chatting online or calling 940-565-3225 for additional information.

If you are experiencing financial insecurity, please apply for assistance from our emergency grants-in-aid program available through the CARES Act. This money is available now and meant for you. The grants can help you pay your bills so you can stay in school and earn your degree as planned.
