  15. You never know who will be inspired to take action. Assume that everyone can be persuaded to support you. They need the right messenger.

  16. Last thing: The more people who stand up and speak up, the less fraught and frustrating it is for everyone. It's like magic!

  17. But honestly, the worst thing that happens to those of us who have a voice is when we mess up, people educate us for free, rudely. It’s ok.

  18. And to that point — even though I get full of myself & screw up a lot, sticking with it means I’m less terrible at discussing these things.

  19. Spoiler: if you approach a sensitive topic with humility & sincerity, people will _help you_ get it. The only minefield is hubris. (I know.)

  20. If you are in a position of leadership in your industry but can’t discuss issues of race, class, gender, marginalization… START STUDYING.

  21. But we would never say “don’t learn to make apps that scale, it’s too hard”. Learning to communicate about issues is even more important.
