October 3, 2018, marked 100 years of health services on campus! Beginning out of necessity due to the Spanish Influenza during World War I in 1918, on-campus student health services has developed into the current Student Health and Wellness Center in Chestnut Hall. Under the care of its first nurse and director, Adolphine Grabbe, the health center began as a small hospital performing first aid and treating illnesses, serving what was then known as North Texas State Normal College. Though the days of overnight hospital stays and the best kitchen on campus have gone, the Student Health and Wellness Center still performs many of the same duties, including keeping our student body healthy throughout their UNT career. Read a more complete history here. Find more information about our current services here.

SHWC Centennial Reception

The SHWC held a Centennial Reception on October 3, 2018, in the Chestnut Hall Rotunda. Guests were treated to remarks from Executive Director Herschel Voorhees and Vice President for Student Affairs Elizabeth With, live jazz, photos with Scrappy and the UNT cheerleaders, delicious hors-d'oeuvres, and of course, cake. SHWC Centennial Health and Fitness Expo

The annual Health and Fitness Expo was held on October 10, 2018, in front of Chestnut Hall and the Pohl Recreation Center. Students received important information about their health and fitness options and celebrated the SHWC's centennial.
