Undergraduate (BSCJ)
Criminal Justice majors prepare for challenging careers in public sector law enforcement, corrections, court-related employment, private sector loss prevention and corporate security, and investigative work. Many UNT alumni are serving in agencies throughout the DFW region and beyond as police chiefs, supervisors and police officers; special agents at federal agencies; state law enforcement officers; supervisory staff at community corrections agencies, probation officers, parole officers, and correctional officers, among others. Learn more about Criminal Justice at UNT.

Graduate (MSCJ) with Concentration in Theory and Research
The Master of Science in Criminal Justice at UNT provides students with a high-quality education on the nature, causes, and control of crime. The program is designed to incorporate theoretical and applied approaches to crime and criminal justice policy. Although many of our graduates go on to work in a variety of criminal justice agencies, the MSCJ program allows students the opportunity to pursue more advanced degrees in criminology or criminal justice-related fields upon completion.

All courses in the campus-based MSCJ with Concentration in Theory and Research program are offered during the day (i.e., between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.).

Our 100% online MSCJ with Concentration in Justice Policy and Administration degree option offers a flexible way to finish your degree in just two years.

Internships
The Department of Criminal Justice offers an internship program for undergraduate students which provides an opportunity to gain “hands-on” practical experience by working with practitioners in the various areas of the criminal justice system. These areas include local, state, or federal agencies; law enforcement; adjudication; probation and corrections; and corporate or governmental security. The program provides a connection between the environment of classroom learning and the hands-on experience of the professional world. Internships provide students the opportunity to determine which area of the field best fits their career goals. An internship experience can confirm a student’s future career plans, and can provide an opportunity for self-evaluation of goals, attitudes, and values. Awareness of the demands of the profession, as well as awareness of additional career opportunities is provided to those who are selected as interns. Additionally, employers are provided an opportunity to evaluate the student’s growth and may provide opportunities for future placement.

The Department of Criminal Justice offers an internship program for pre-professional and research oriented Master of Science in Criminal Justice students. MSCJ students may potentially apply up to 6 credit hours of internship coursework back to their elective degree requirements.
