Your future in Engineering Technology
Engineering technologists engage in complex projects such as microchip design, software integration and automation using advanced tools such as computer modeling and simulation programs.
Engineering technologists work side-by-side with engineering specialists and scientists in design, research and development, quality control, product development and manufacturing.
You will gain the practical skills needed to work in the field with an Engineering Technology degree from UNT. Graduates of the program are highly sought after in nearly every industry sector. Many stay at UNT to pursue master's and doctoral degrees in technical fields, business and law.
What we offer
In the Department of Engineering Technology, you will apply current and emerging technologies to solve engineering problems. We emphasize learning through experience in every course and provide hands-on laboratory activities. This prepares you to be a productive citizen, leader and technology innovator in a global society.
You may pursue an ABET-accredited B.S.E.T. degree in:
- Construction engineering technology
- Mechanical engineering technology
Research projects are determined primarily by short-to medium term industry needs. You'll apply advanced science, engineering and mathematics and use known or emerging technology to develop solutions relevant to industry problems.
Faculty-led research projects are funded by industry, state and federal agencies and foundations. These organizations also provide research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. Our well-equipped laboratories give you the utmost in learning environments.
You can join other engineering technology students by participating in student chapters of the Association of Construction Engineering Technology or the Society of Automotive Engineers, among others. Participating in these organizations will help you earn internships.
The College of Engineering also supports a Residents Engaged in Academic Living Community. The REAL community brings together engineering majors who live on campus to enhance academic and social experiences.
Located four miles north of the main campus and serviced by a free shuttle, Discovery Park is a 300-acre research facility that contains the College of Engineering and the Engineering Technology department. The facility brings together academic laboratories, offices and classrooms to maximize the potential for creativity, collaboration and technological innovation. Our students can look forward to exciting engineering careers that solve societal problems, advance technology and improve the quality of life for people everywhere.
The Bachelor of Science degree with a major in mechanical engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, construction engineering technology, are accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC) of ABET, (415 North Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201; 410-347-7700).
What to expect
The engineering technology curriculum is multidisciplinary and project-based. In your first year, you'll take math and basic science courses, including calculus and general chemistry. As you progress through the program, you can enroll in technical electives that provide an in-depth knowledge of your concentration.
In the Construction Engineering Technology program, you'll begin taking major courses during the first semester of your freshman year.
The Career Center, Learning Center and professional academic advisors are among the many valuable resources available to you at UNT. The Career Center can provide advice about internships, future employment opportunities and getting hands-on experience in your major. The Learning Center offers workshops on speed reading, study skills and time management. Academic advisors will help you plan your class schedule each semester.
