Your future In Air Force ROTC
Many careers in the Air Force don't require a specific academic major. Potential career fields include:

What we offer
Through the Department of Aerospace Studies, the Air Force ROTC program helps you grow mentally and physically so you stand out from fellow students and other graduates. The program is open to all majors and has three- and four-year options available.
You can participate in the program for up to two years with no obligation to serve unless you are awarded a scholarship or contract with the Air Force. Other opportunities include:
- Field trips to Air Force installations
- Getting involved in the Cadet Honor Guard, Rifle Drill Team or Saber Team
- Occupying key leadership positions in the university's corps of cadets
- Taking an active role in the development and training of first- and second-year students
- Textbooks for ROTC courses and uniforms issued at no cost
We provide specialized aerospace courses that complement your general coursework. Our aerospace courses can fulfill elective requirements in certain degree programs.
Once you earn your UNT degree and complete the ROTC program, you'll be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force.
What to expect
You'll progress through the program in the following stages:
- General Military Course focuses on the Air Force's mission and structure and examines military life; usually taken during the first two years at UNT
- Field training a two-week encampment offered during the summer at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama
- Professional Officer Course requires contracting with the Air Force; focuses on leadership, management, officership and national security issues in America, usually taken during the final two years at UNT
You'll also enroll in a leadership laboratory that allows you to participate in leadership discussions and exercises with other ROTC members.
Scholarships
As an incoming freshman, you may receive a scholarship based on your:
- Extracurricular activities
- High school grades
- Interview with an Air Force representative
- Recommendations from high school teachers
- SAT or ACT scores

Qualifying for Air Force ROTC
You must be a U.S. citizen attending UNT or a crosstown institution full time, be in good physical condition and have good moral character.
