Course Information

To earn a Bachelor in Social Work (BSW) degree at UNT, students complete a total of 120 hours of coursework and complete certain degree requirements. The courses associated with each area of the BSW degree are listed below. Please note that not all courses are offered every semester during the academic year.

University Core Requirements - 42 hours

Core courses may be taken at UNT or at another accredited university or community college and then transferred to UNT. The Texas Common Numbering System (pdf) indicates equivalent UNT courses to core courses taken at a community college.

Students may use their elective hours to pursue a minor program of study; however, a minor is not required. Please note that the number of elective hours may increase by selecting courses that satisfy both core AND major requirements.  Students who are interested in working in child welfare are strongly urged to take the course listed below.
