Explore Your Options
The first step is deciding what you want to teach. The College of Education offeres several options for teacher certifications:
- Elementary Education — Certification areas include Bilingual and ESL education (Pre-Kindergarten - 6th grade)
- Middle School Education — Certification areas include English Language Arts and Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies (4th grade – 8th grade)
- Secondary/All-Level Certification — Teacher certification for elementary, middle or high school
- All-level Physical Education — Teach Physical Education in elementary, middle or high school
- Teacher Certification — Post-baccalaureate certification for graduates who did not pursue education studies but want to become a teacher
Taking The Next Step
In order to obtain an initial standard classroom certificate in Texas, students must go through an approved Educator Preparation Program:
- Enroll — There are a number of degree options that lead to a career as an educator
- Apply — Be admitted to an educator certification program in order to be eligible to take the TExES certification exams and become certified in the state of Texas
- Pass — The TExES Advising Office advisors will ensure you are well-prepared before you take your exam
- Practice — Our partner schools to provide field-based programs for both undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students seeking initial certification in elementary and secondary levels
