Texas requires institutions, businesses and governmental entities to report to the state any personal property that has been abandoned or unclaimed for up to five years, depending on the property in question. Returning that property to its rightful owners is one of the duties of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.

Pursuant to the requirements of Tex. Prop. Code Ann. Section 74.402 (Vernon 1999), this advertisement serves as notice that the Comptroller of Public Accounts will participate as a seller in an Internet auction of unclaimed safe deposit box contents including, but not limited to, jewelry, coins, and other miscellaneous items. The items will be sold on eBay using the seller name tx.unclaimed.property.

HB855 Browser Statement
In 2015, the Texas Legislature passed House Bill 855, which requires state agencies to publish a list of the three most commonly used Web browsers on their websites. The Texas Comptroller’s most commonly used Web browsers are Google Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Apple Safari.
