The start of spring means the start of severe weather season, with a potential to bring tornadoes, hail and strong storms to North Texas. Our department partners with the UNT Office of Emergency Management to offer tips to our community to help you prepare. The official UNT alert system is Eagle Alert. You will receive an alert via phone when there is a tornado warning for Denton. To ensure we have your preferred phone numbers, go to my.unt.edu and click the Eagle Alert module on the right of the page. For faculty who work on other UNT System campuses, you can check other areas for preferred notifications. We encourage you to check with your city of residence to see if there is an emergency notification system available. For example, the City of Denton has a CodeRed Emergency Notification System that sends phone alerts.
If you are teaching and receive an alert to seek shelter, it’s important to know the location of your building’s shelters. You can visit the Emergency Management website, emergency.unt.edu, to find UNT’s Emergency Floor Plans under the Emergency Preparedness tab. You can also find this information and more on the Mean Green Ready app – search for “UNT Emergency” in your Apple or Google Play store to download.
