G. Brint Ryan College of Business General and Departmental Scholarships

G. Brint Ryan College of Business scholarships are competitively awarded to business majors on the basis of academic excellence and merit. Amounts vary from year to year depending on contributions. Awards are available for undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students.

This year the application process has changed so that business students can apply for both general scholarships and departmental scholarships in one online application.

IMPORTANT:

  • ALL business students are eligible to apply for a general scholarship, this includes PBUS and BUND students
  • Only DECLARED majors are eligible to apply for their respective departmental scholarships (for example, only declared accounting majors can apply for the ACCT departmental scholarships)
    • Please note: You must be declared in your major by March 1 to qualify for those scholarships
  • If you are a declared major and wish to be considered for a departmental scholarship, you MUST complete that department’s section of the application. Double majors are eligible to fill out both departmental sections of their majors
Basic Eligibility for General and Departmental Scholarships
  1. Students must be a G. Brint Ryan College of Business major at time of application.
  2. Students must be in good academic standing with the university.
  3. Students must be currently enrolled at UNT and have completed at least one semester at UNT BEFORE Spring 2019.
  4. Each scholarship has its own set of eligibility criteria. To view a list of each department’s scholarships, please click on the departmental tabs below. To learn more about the criteria of each scholarship, click on the name of the scholarship.
  5. Scholarships are awarded for the upcoming Academic year (2019-2020). Students must not be scheduled to graduate before Fall 2018.
  6. Students awarded scholarships must sign the Scholarship Acceptance Agreement and provide a thank you letter to the scholarship donor.

  1. This application is only for G. Brint Ryan College of Business scholarships for Fall 2019 and Spring 2020. Summer scholarships are currently not available.
  2. All information pertinent academic information will be verified by the university, including major, GPA, hours completed, FAFSA information, etc.
  3. Each department may have additional eligibility requirements. Please click on the departmental tabs below to find out more information.
  4. Your course enrollment will be verified during the semesters you receive a scholarship. If you do not meet the criteria, the scholarship may be revoked.
  5. Payment authorization will be made only after course enrollment and eligibility requirements are verified on the 12th class day of the semester. Scholarship winners are strongly encouraged to register for classes as early as possible.

  5. In addition to the application form, the applicant will submit an essay explaining how they personify a strong work ethic through personal experience in meeting and overcoming challenges. The essay should also include current or past business/entrepreneurial experience and success, leadership skills, participation in organizations and/or group events, and plans for their future in the business or non-profit world.
  6. If the applicant is applying for a renewal of the Fellowship, write an additional essay stating how the initial Fellowship award benefited the applicant's career aspirations. An applicant may only receive one renewal of this award.
  7. It is the donor's intent that the Fellowship not be awarded as an academic achievement fellowship, but instead be awarded based on promise and effort. This Fellowship will be awarded to those who might not be eligible for awards based strictly on academic achievement.

Jim Coln graduated from UNT in 1960 and was named Sigma Nu Man of the Year in the same year. He worked his way through college at times taking a semester off to earn enough money to continue. In 2014 he was given the UNT Outstanding Alumni Award. Jim trained as an industrial engineer and became president and CEO of Clarke American Checks and a senior VP and executive director of Caradon America and MB Clarke of the U.K. He loved his time at UNT and enjoyed helping young people all his life.

Scholarships and excellence recognition awards are competitively awarded by the Department of Accounting Scholarship Committee to all accounting majors on the basis of academic excellence, merit, professionalism, and need. Amounts vary from year to year depending on contributions and are available for undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. FIREL Department Scholarships

The Department of Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Law (FIREL) offers a variety of competitive scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students majoring in either finance, real estate or risk, insurance and financial services. Eligible students will have completed at least one or more semesters at UNT and have a good academic record. Scholarships awards are determined by the department’s scholarship committee, and amounts vary based on available funding.   2. Maintain full-time enrollment as established by the University, unless the student is nearing completion of his or her degree program and does not need full-time enrollment;
  3. Have at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale; and
  4. Enroll as a full-time junior or senior majoring in Marketing (or its successor) at the University

  2. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the G. Brint Ryan College of Business in effect at the time of the award
  3. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time in their degree program
  4. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; if there are no otherwise qualified applicants with a minimum of 3.0 GPA, qualified students with a GPA below 3.0 will be considered

If no applicant possesses the previous characteristics, then full-time G. Brint Ryan College of Business students at UNT will be eligible for consideration. Additionally...

  1. Recipient must be an in-state student
  2. The scholarship award shall be equally dispersed by UNT between two academic semesters to ensure that the recipient is continuing to meet the requirements of eligibility
  3. Preference will be given to students who meet the above characteristics and are active in extracurricular activities both internal and external to UNT

    Undergraduate Students:

  1. Operations and Supply Chain Management majors
  2. Major in Production Operations Management (Apparel Track)
  3. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted
  4. Must have completed 60 semester hours
  5. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  6. Permanent residents or citizens of the United States
  7. Must express intent to enter the manufacturing industry, preferably in Texas but certainly in the United States

Note: A student who is awarded the Lorch Folz Memorial Scholarship for the junior year is eligible to have the scholarship renewed for the senior year provided that s/he continues to meet the eligibility criteria.

    Graduate Students

  2. Maintain full time enrollment unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program
  3. Enroll as a full-time graduate student in Marketing at the University, if no applicants possess this characteristic, then undergraduate students enrolling full-time in Marketing will be eligible for consideration

Center for Logistics and Supply Chain Management Scholarships

Logistics Center scholarships are competitively awarded by the Center's Scholarship Committee to logistics, aviation logistics, and operations management majors on the basis of academic excellence, merit, professionalism, and need. Amounts vary from year to year depending on contributions. Awards are available for undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. Eligibility

  1. Based on your qualifications, you will be put into consideration for ALL scholarships for which you are eligible.
  2. Students applying for a Logistics Center scholarship must have declared one of the following majors by March 1:

    Bachelors Programs

    • Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) – Operations Management
    • Bachelor of Science (BS) – Aviation Logistics
    • Bachelor of Science (BS) – Logistics and Supply Chain Management

    Masters Programs

    • Master of Business Administration (MBA) – Logistics and Supply Chain Management

    Ph.D. Program

    • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) – Logistics Systems
