Workshops, Camps & Masterclasses


Each summer, UNT’s College of Music opens its doors to music students whose ages and levels of experience span a wide range. From elementary school students, to college graduates, students and professionals, those who want to learn more, fine tune their musical skills, or build on their knowledge of music instruction are invited to apply for the College of Music’s summer workshops, many of which offer participants the opportunity to perform in public concerts throughout the summer.

Pirastro Strings Elite Soloists Program

Friday, May 24 through Friday, May 31, 2019

The Elite Soloists Program will accept only 5 students by audition to study with Jeff Bradetich. Daily lessons and solo classes will be held in a highly individualized program. Last year’s class included participants from major orchestras and young professionals. To apply, send a CD or DVD of two different solo works to Jeff Bradetich, 1155 Union Circle #311367, Denton, TX 76203 by March 1, 2019. Thanks to the generous support of Pirastro Strings, this program offers free tuition, room and board.

Flute! Repertoire and Performance Masterclass

Flute! Repertoire and Performance Masterclass is a performance class for advanced performers, and these sessions emphasize musical performance and preparation. Daily classes include warmup exercises, tone/technique development, articulation studies, interaction of performer and listener, and the master class concludes with a concert by members of the class.

19th Annual Lynn Seaton Jazz Double Bass Workshop

Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 21, 2019

The workshop will offer an intensive week of study and performance opportunities for the jazz upright bassist. Classes include bass line development bass ensembles, and daily sessions on technique. Also, participants will have an opportunity to perform with a rhythm section and be coached. Outstanding faculty concerts will be presented throughout the week. It starts with registration early Monday morning and concludes with the Friday evening Bass Bash concert where ALL the participants will perform. The Lynn Seaton Jazz Double Bass Workshop is open to advanced high school (14+), college, professional, and serious amateur bassists.

Prof. Lynn Seaton has established himself as one of the leading performers and teachers of jazz bass in the world today. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his Annual Jazz Double Bass Workshop. This intimate workshop is limited to 15 upright bass players. (The UNT Combo Workshop accepts electric and upright bass players.) These spots are first-come/first-served, and thus your spot is not fully secured until you have made your Final Payment and completed registration.

32nd Annual Bradetich Double Bass Masterclass

UNT Summer String Institute
