Visual Arts & Design

The College of Visual Art and Design (CVAD) now has funding available through the generous support of a number of its donors and friends to support undergraduate and graduate students through financial award opportunities. These award opportunities were created to directly assist students towards finishing creative projects or scholarly research, presenting at conferences or mounting an exhibition of work, or with the expenses of study abroad or an internship opportunity.

Additionally, CVAD awards the Nicholas and Anna Ricco Ethics Awards Scholarship (below) annually to the leading CVAD student proponent of ethical behavior and concepts. Deadlines are posted for each individual award. Please check back periodically, as we will update the award information as new funding opportunities become available.

CVAD Student Project Award Fund

This award fund has been created from college fees and generous donors to fund projects (including materials), study abroad, conferences, presentations, research opportunities, and internships (among other possibilities) that enrich the education and opportunities of CVAD students. Awards will be granted based on the educational or professional impact of the opportunity to the student, the department, the college, and/or the university. Maximum funding will be $2,500. Most awards will be significantly smaller than this and partial funding for projects is to be expected.

Please see your department office for their specific application deadline date. The final application must be submitted by your department no later than Monday, February 18, 2019.

2018-2019 Nicholas and Anna Ricco Ethics Scholarship Competition Award

Thanks to the generosity of Nicholas and Anna Ricco, a $1,000 award will be given annually to the leading CVAD student proponent of ethical behavior and concepts. A student may only receive this recognition 1 time. $1,000 will be given to each student winner in the thirteen schools and colleges of UNT. Award funds will be deposited into the winners’ student accounts at UNT, or provided by check to those who are graduating in Spring 2018.

Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards in place at the school or college in effect at the time of any award
• Full or part-time enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree-granting program at UNT
• Submit a 1,000-word maximum essay, double-spaced excluding bibliography. The essay will highlight what the applicant believes to be the epitome of ethical behavior in his or her focus of study or field of business as applied to the case study. Students may use any UNT faculty member for guidance in this competition.
• All participants must agree to the posting of his or her name and essay to the college’s website if declared the winner.

Topic
All applicants will write on a case study topic, which can be found here.

Evaluation

• An Associate Dean from each school or college will comprise as the Ricco Award Evaluation Committee, evaluate the essays and choose winners.
• Applicants may be asked to present their papers. UNT schools and colleges have the option to request applicants make formal presentations to the panel and other invited guests.
• The top three essays may be made available on each of the websites of the schools and colleges at UNT to the student body for edification and feedback.
• Evaluation will be based on the following criteria:

1. Focus on Field of Study
2. Discussion of an Ethical Behavior or Standard
3. Applicability of the Case Study
4. Intellectual Debate or Discussion
5. Mechanics
6. Presence of a Thesis or Position

• All entries should be submitted by following the link below and providing all of the information. Entries should be uploaded to that site.
• The deadline for entries is 11:59 p.m. January 31, 2019.
• Essays to be submitted must be uploaded as a PDF.
• Submission of essay will be sent in an email stating your name, email address, a telephone number, status in school, title of essay and college in which you are enrolled at UNT.
• No paper or hard-copy submissions will be accepted.

Onstead Institute / Amon Carter Museum Fellowship in Museum Education

Job Description
The fellow will learn aspects of museum education, which would include:

• Observing, planning, and implementing community outreach programs for K-12 audiences
• Observing, planning, and implementing K-12 school tours in the galleries
• Executing K-12 teacher workshops
• Evaluating education programs

Funding
This fellowship is generously funded through the Onstead Institute and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. The fellow will receive $8,000 in payments of $4,000 per semester.

Logistics
Participating students will enroll for three credit hours per semester in ART 5450: Internship with the Department of Art Education and Art History for a total of six credit hours. The instructor of record at UNT is Laura Evans. The six credit hours in ART 5450 can fulfill the internship requirement for the graduate Art Museum Education Certificate. Fellowship Period
This fellowship consists of 10 hours per week at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art for a total of 135 hours on site at the museum per semester. This fellowship runs from the start of the Summer semester (2019) to the end of the Fall semester (2019). The fellow and their supervisor at the Amon Carter will decide how to distribute the 10 hours over a week.

Eligibility
Applicants must be currently enrolled graduate students at the University of North Texas and have completed at least one art museum education course in the Department of Art Education and Art History. Preferred candidates will have some experience in museums or as educators.
