Today was my (Alyssa H.'s) last day working for the College of Music. You may have never met me face to face but I had the opportunity to be the girl "behind the scenes" for String Project, Early Childhood Music, and the Orchestra Summer Day Camp (among others). Many emails were sent and many encouraging ones received. Thank you for giving your children the gift of music, you'll never regret it!

Make sure to check out the new admin's contact info on this website (coming soon...). All the best to you and your families! https://musiced.music.unt.edu/node/26

UNT's Early Childhood Music Program is excited to welcome our new teacher, Sandy Cubero!

Sandy holds a B.M. in music education from Georgia State University and a M.S. in Educational Leadership from Indiana University. Sandy taught elementary music in Indiana for five years before moving to Texas. Her husband is on faculty at the College of Music while Sandy is currently staying home with her one-year-old son and teaching private lessons in cello, violin, and piano. As a music teacher, she incorporates movement, games, and singing to foster a holistic learning experience. She is excited to work with all the children and families this year.

Welcome Sandy!

UNT String Program...

There’s no shortage of music lessons in Denton. The city is, after all, home to a large music school at University of North Texas. Without leaving the city limits, locals can study voice and just about any instrument that suits their fancy.
Readers rate the UNT String Program as the best place in town to wrap your brain and your hands around a violin, viola, cello or double bass. The program’s scope is limited to children in second through eighth grade.

“Learning to play a stringed instrument and belonging to the UNT String Project opens up a whole new world of friendship and fun,” director Rebecca Roesler says. “The opportunities for playing a stringed instrument in school and even after high school are abundant, with many universities offering scholarships just for orchestra participation.”

The string program teaches more than music. Children in the program learn self-discipline, cooperation, problem-solving, goal-setting and self-expression.
The program’s officials said they’ve gotten praise for both the music and the relationships formed with their young students’ families.

“We’d like to think that we are doing a good job educating the community’s children and providing a wonderful musical experience for them,” Roesler said. “However, it’s important to note that the families we work with have always been so supportive of our teachers and program and we wouldn’t be here with out their support.

Families can monitor the music education program’s Facebook page at http://on.fb.me/1IT3Pw6.
