The International Peer Mentor Program matches incoming international students with American and international peers to:

• Help international students adjust to life in the United States
• Expose new international students to available campus resources
• Foster relationships among peers from different cultures
• Contribute to UNT's caring community by helping campus feel more like home for students from around the world

Depending on the number of students that sign up as mentees, we anticipate matching each mentor with 3-5 mentees.

Since the iMentor program is in its early stages, it will be up to you, our mentors, to help guide program structure and define the roles of mentors. Here is the original powerpoint we shared at the focus group on 3/27/19. Again, this is a pilot program, and our first mentors will be the pioneers in fine-tuning the commitments and responsibilities that work best for students.

Time Commitment and Responsibilities:

• One year (2 long semesters)
• Access Peer Mentor Training
• 10 hours a month
• Pre-arrival contact via Canvas/Email/Social
• Attend iMentor Mixer at start of each semester
• Attend International Student Welcome Parties at start of each semester
• Attend International Student Thanksgiving Dinner
• Attend university programs and events with mentees as schedules allow

The Division of International Affairs and UNT Counseling and Testing Services will create a Mentor Resource Book for each mentor outlining campus resources, answering basic questions, and providing a brief overview of the international student acculturation process and what you can expect from your international mentees.
