How you can pay for college

You want to go to college to earn a bachelor’s degree – but you wonder if you can afford it. UNT has many options to help you pay for college.

Scholarships and financial aid

About 75 percent of UNT students receive financial aid and scholarships totaling $380 million annually. This includes more than $49 million in scholarships.

For best results, apply for financial aid and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before UNT's Feb. 1 financial aid priority deadline. The application deadline for scholarships is March 1.

Other types of assistance include:

Greater Texas Foundation Scholars

As an ECHS graduate, you may qualify for the GTF Scholars program. This program covers the average cost of 15 hours of college coursework each fall and spring semester for up to three consecutive years using a combination of federal, state, university and other funding. The program also provides support to help you pay for college, make the transition to UNT and succeed academically.

No special application is necessary. Your eligibility for the program is based on the information you provide when you apply to UNT. In order to be considered for the GTF Scholars program, you will need to submit your UNT Admissions application by March 1 and complete your FAFSA by Feb. 1.

Once enrolled at UNT, you must earn at least 30 semester credit hours and a 2.5 grade point average each fall and spring semester to retain eligibility. As a part of the scholarship, you may also be asked to participate in other activities that will contribute to your success.

To be eligible for the Greater Texas Foundation Scholars program, you must be a graduate of a designated Early College High School.
