KAILUA, Hawaii – The North Texas women's golf team had three players finish the opening round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in the top 25 on the leaderboard on Tuesday, and the Mean Green are in fifth place out of 12 teams at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course.
Senior
Sabina Pena shot a 2-over-par 74 and is tied for 10th with two rounds to play, while freshmen
Patricia Sinolungan (76) and
Audrey Tan (77) are tied for 18th and 24th, respectively. The Mean Green's first-round score was 17-over par, six shots behind fourth-place Texas, the No. 2 ranked team in the country.
"We got off to a slow start this morning but hope to improve each round, as we tend to do," UNT coach
Michael Akers said. "There are quite a few adjustments we need to make. It is very windy here and has rained on and off, but everyone plays in the same conditions so we will focus on getting better in Rounds 2 and 3."
