SAN ANTONIO – North Texas wrapped up the weather-shortened Maryb S. Kauth Invitational at TPC San Antonio's AT&T Canyons Course on Tuesday, with the Mean Green claiming sixth place at 29-over par with a two-round score of 299-306-605.

Senior Sabina Pena followed up her even-par opening round on Sunday with a round of 76 on Tuesday to finish at 4-over par after Monday's round was canceled due to heavy rain in the area.

Pena tied for 10th place on the individual leaderboard, while junior Lauren Cox finished tied for 14th at 6-over.

"We did a good job of battling tough conditions today," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "Our team total today was right there with the top teams. Not playing 54 holes probably kept us from climbing the leaderboard. It is an accomplishment coming within a shot of the defending C-USA champs on their home course."

UNT had two other golfers finish in the top 30, as Audrey Tan tied for 26th at 9-over par, and Sol Lee shot a 10-over par to tie for 28th place.

Pena finished tied for third in the field in Par 5 scoring, while also finishing tied for second in pars for the tournament with 26. Cox and Lee tied for third in the field in birdies with six apiece.

The Mean Green now have a quick turnaround to their next competition, as they will head to Austin from San Antonio to compete in the Betsy Rawls Invitational from Oct. 19-21, at the UT Golf Club.

Akers said the experience of playing in the cold, wet conditions will benefit his team this weekend in Austin, where more such weather is expected.

"Two of our players have never played in conditions like we faced today," Akers said. "The only way to prepare is to experience it. This could prove to be valuable as we transition to the UT event. The forecast is for continued cool and wet conditions."
