The collection consists of 149 boxes, most of which contain sets of parts used by the various bands led by Maynard Ferguson from around 1950 through his death in 2006. Scores are also present, along with published arrangements, Thai and Indian music, miscellaneous and/or unidentified materials, and scores reconstructed by Ferguson expert Edward Etkins.

Abbreviations: MF = Maynard Ferguson; S = Score; NS = No Score; R = Rhythm section; Mosaic = Released on The Complete Roulette Maynard Ferguson.

Numbers refer, in order, to the number of saxophones, trumpets, and trombones in an arrangement. For example, MF/4/3/2/R denotes an arrangements with a part for Maynard Ferguson, 4 saxophones, 3 trumpets, 2 trombones, and a rhythm section.

The collection consists of Don Gillis' compositions and papers, reel-to-reel recordings of many of his compositions and Gillis' discussing his works, and materials related to the series Toscanini: The Man Behind the Legend, which Gillis produced. Gillis' wife Barbara oversaw the donation of this collection, and was a lifelong advocate of Mr.Gillis' work.

Gillis' compositions represent his career from the early 1930s through the 1970s, and include sacred, secular, symphonic, and chamber works. His papers include correspondence, papers related to various projects, schedules, reviews, radio scripts, and the Men of Music radio project, teaching materials, writings, additional papers concerning his work, biographical materials, and newspaper clippings.

The reel-to-reel recordings, 50 in all, contain recordings of Gillis' works and Gillis' own description of them. Transcripts are included in Series 3 of the finding aid.

The recordings of Toscanini: The Man Behind the Legend and The Centennial Series span the years 1963 through 1967, and with few exceptions, each broadcast is linked individually and available for listening through the UNT Digital Library.

The collection consists of Leon Breeden's extensive, and often self-selected archival materials from his entire career, during which time the One O'Clock Lab Band and the UNT Jazz Studies program rose to international prominence. Also present are personal recordings and writing, compositions, memorabilia, photos, and materials from his time at Texas Christian University, in New York City, and at Grand Prairie High School.

The collection consists of two boxes of assorted papers and audio recordings from Jerry Samuels. Many of the recordings are of educational materials or recordings of music-related workshops and conferences.

The collection consists of one box containing 17 spiral-bound books of photocopies of handwritten notes by Christopher Small; gaps in the numbering of the books indicate that some volumes may be missing. Also present are a paper inventory of the collection, and a 3.5" floppy disk which has so far been unreadable. The notebooks are undated, but consist of Small's commentaries on publications about music and culture published between 1930 and 1985.

The collection consists of fifty boxes, mainly of the compositions and papers of Simon Bucharoff (1881-1955), along with materials related to Bucharoff's brother, Isadore Buchhalter, papers related to activities of Bucharoff's estate, one piece of realia, and the documentation that accompanied the collection from the University of Houston. Bucharoff's papers consist mainly of correspondence, but also include clippings, photographs, concert programs, promotional materials, and writings on non-musical subjects. The materials are predominantly from 1916 through 1967, with a smaller number of materials from before and after that period.

The scores comprise the most complete collection of Bucharoff's works that has yet been assembled and organized. His papers chronicle the his rise to prominence as a pianist, and then as a composer, the struggles of the 1920s and onward, his attempts to promote and publish his works, and reflect the personality, worldview, and spirituality that informed his works.

The collection consists of five boxes, containing materials from Duke's years at North Texas State Teacher's College, numerous photos from his overseas deployment in the Second World War and from his time as a working musician in the post-war years, and materials related to his career as a writer (including the novel Sideman), and his work with the General Dynamics Corporation, and the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Highlights of the collection include the photo albums, and a film reel of the General Dynamics promotional film, Champion of Champions, which starred Jimmy Stewart. The collection also contains a copy of the script annotated and autographed by Stewart.

It includes many letters from Schoenberg to Nachod, a few from Nachod to Schoenberg, as well as a number of music manuscripts in Schoenberg's hand, among which are early songs and arrangements.

The collection consists of over 250 glass-base, 16-inch broadcast transcriptions dated from July of 1941 through February of 1950, divided more or less evenly between news material (principally from the NBC "Blue" network) and "classical" music: largely orchestral music, with some opera selections. The musical selections are primarily from the New York Philharmonic and NBC Symphony Orchestra, with later selections from the "Oklahoma Symphony" (possibly the present-day Oklahoma City Philharmonic). Also present are the occasional recordings of what appear to be Rotary Club programs or proceedings.

The manuscripts contain the work of numerous arrangers, including Sy Oliver, Joe Glover, Charles Maehl, Bill Challis, Ralph Barnhart, Agustin Borguno, and Lew Davies, along with the work of numerous copyists identifiable by their union stamps. The union stamps also correlate to approximate dates. Specific dates are noted where available. The collection contains both popular music and classical selections, including much of the series of J.S. Bach cantatas that the station broadcast, and other lesser known works.

The collection consists of recordings from UNT alumnae and past UNT students who went on to have prominent careers in popular music, including Roy Orbison, Pat Boone, Meatloaf, and Don Henley. The collection is by no means a comprehensive record of commercially-successful North Texas musicians, but rather a growing document of some of the more prolific artists who have studied at North Texas.
